Montgomery, AL – Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley has suggested the state reduce the number of paid holidays for state employees.
Bentley on Saturday told a meeting of the Alabama Republican Party Executive Committee he believes state employees receive ``too many'' paid state holidays.
Bentley said he would be meeting with his staff to discuss reducing the number of state holidays from the current 13. The average number of state holidays for southeastern states is 12.br>
The executive director of the Alabama State Employees Association, Mac McArthur, said he would oppose any attempt by the governor or legislators to reduce the number of paid holidays. He said many of the current holidays were approved in past years when workers did not get a pay raise.
