Montgomery, AL – State Treasurer Young Boozer says Alabama's prepaid college tuition plan will need another big infusion of cash from the state government.
The Legislature appropriated $548 million last year for the financially troubled Prepaid Affordable College Tuition Plan.
Boozer told the plan's board Wednesday that another $338 million could be needed to pay tuition for the 41,000 participants.
One reason is tuition for the biggest universities in the program - the University of Alabama system and Auburn University - has gone up faster than anticipated.
State Finance Director David Perry said the number is big, but it's realistic.
He said it's one more financial issue to put on Gov. Robert Bentley's crowded plate.
