Montgomery, AL – Visitors to the Alabama Statehouse during the upcoming legislative session won't have to make an appointment to see legislators, but they will have to sign in with security and wear a visitor badge while in the building.
House Speaker Mike Hubbard announced the changes Friday and said they should make the often-crowded Statehouse more orderly and accommodating for visitors. He said a help desk will be available on the sixth floor to help visitors find legislators' offices.
Legislative leaders had considered closing the hallways to legislators' offices after the Arizona ambush and requiring appointments to enter, but they decided against that.
The new policy also requires lobbyists to sign in and wear badges.
