Montgomery, AL – Republican state Sen. Paul Sanford says Senate Republicans are in a stalemate over the 2007 legislative pay raise.
The Huntsville Republican has offered a resolution to leave the compensation at $52,596 annually. But it would reduce the compensation in any future year when the governor has to cut the state General Fund budget due to the Legislature over-appropriating.
The Senate Rules Committee had Sanford's resolution on its agenda Thursday. But the committee left off a resolution by Republican Sen. Gerald Dial, who wants to cut the compensation to the 2007 level of $30,710.
Dial urged the committee to send both resolutions to a subcommittee for review. Committee Chairman Scott Beason agreed after Dial showed he had some support within the Rules Committee.
