Judge Threatens Prosecutors In Ala. Gambling case

Montgomery, AL – A federal judge is threatening sanctions against prosecutors in Alabama's gambling corruption case.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Wallace Capel Jr. halted a hearing Tuesday because government attorneys haven't give defense lawyers all the documents relevant to the wiretapped phone calls that are at the heart of the charges.

The judge told prosecutors they could face sanctions if they don't provide all the documents they're supposed to turn over by the end of the day.

The documents include phone logs and emails by FBI agents who tapped the phones of casino owners Milton McGregor and Ronnie Gilley.

Defense attorneys are seeking the documents to boost their claims that the wiretaps weren't conducted properly and should be kept away from jurors in the upcoming June trial of MrGregor, Gilley and eight others.
