Montgomery, AL – Gov. Robert Bentley is forming a commission to study the rising cost of insurance and make recommendations that could be considered in a special session of the Legislature later this year.
Bentley signed an executive order Wednesday creating the Governor's Coastal Insurance Commission. He's accepting applications from people interested in filling the seven positions.
Bentley said Alabama must find ways to stop the rising cost of homeowners insurance along the coast because its impact is felt far beyond coastal communities.
Press secretary Jennifer Ardis says Bentley understands the problems firsthand because he has a vacation home at Fort Morgan.
Bentley promised a special session on coastal insurance during his campaign last year. Ardis said Thursday the governor plans to call that session later this year.
