Montgomery, AL – A federal judge says trust will be the primary issue in determining whether he lets Country Crossing casino developer Ronnie Gilley out of jail before his trial.
U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson heard arguments Thursday from Gilley's attorneys, who want him released from jail, and from federal prosecutors, who want him to stay behind bars. The judge said his decision will come down to whether he can trust Gilley not to violate the law.
Gilley is one of 10 people facing trial in June on charges of buying and selling votes on pro-gambling legislation. He's the only one in jail. A federal magistrate ordered Gilley jailed two months ago after prosecutors accused him of offering a bribe to his former lobbyist, Jarrod Massey, to keep him from pleading guilty.
