Birmingham, AL – The National Weather Service says the blistering hot weather isn't letting up in Alabama.
Heat indexes are predicted to rise into the triple digits across much of the state again on Friday, so the city of Birmingham is opening cooling stations for residents. One of those centers is in an area where many residents are still working to clean up tornado damage.
In southwest Alabama, the Alabama Forestry Commission has expanded a wildfire alert to include seven counties where dry weather and high temperatures are increasing the threat of forest fires.
The weather service says the combination of high temperatures and humidity made it feel like it was as hot as 106 degrees in the state on Thursday, and it's expected to feel nearly that hot on Friday.
