Cordova, AL – An Alabama town that won't let tornado survivors live in mobile homes provided by the federal government has approved a long-term recovery plan with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The Cordova City Council passed the agreement during a brief meeting on Thursday night.
The FEMA trailers would violate a town ordinance against single-wide mobile homes, and officials have refused to waive the law. That's sparked anger among residents who say the decision is heartless, particularly since the town is housing its police headquarters in a trailer.
Some residents left the meeting mad that the council didn't address the situation.
State and federal emergency management officials say they're trying to find additional rental housing for Cordova residents, but they say there's nothing they can do about the city's law.
