Birmingham, AL – Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says Alabama is getting $1.5 million in federal funds to help pay for emergency highway repairs following the tornadoes that ravaged the state in April.
LaHood made the announcement Tuesday while visiting a part of Birmingham that was heavily damaged by the storms. He says the money will help pay for debris removal, sign replacement and traffic signal repairs that are expected to cost more than $10 million statewide.
Dozens of twisters left damage in 42 of Alabama's 67 counties, creating a path of destruction that officials say was more than 600 miles long in all.
