Judge Sets Hearing On Gov. Riley's Testimony

Montgomery, AL – A judge has scheduled a hearing Saturday on whether former Gov. Bob Riley will have to testify in Alabama's gambling corruption trial.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Terry Moorer set the hearing for 2 p.m. in Montgomery on Riley's request to block a subpoena issued by attorneys for VictoryLand casino owner Milton McGregor.

McGregor's attorneys want Riley to testify about his role in trying to shut down electronic bingo casinos, including VictoryLand.

Riley's lawyer, Matt Lembke, says he shouldn't have to testify about the privileged discussions he had with law enforcement officers in his role as governor.

Lembke said he's worked out an arrangement with McGregor's lawyers to allow Riley to continue on his motorcycle trip to Alaska and be given notice to return to Montgomery if he has to testify.
