Hackleburg, AL – The northwest Alabama town of Hackleburg is anxiously awaiting word on whether VF Corp. will rebuild the jeans distribution plant that was at the center of the city's economy until the April tornadoes.
An EF-5 twister leveled the huge Wrangler plant on April 27, and officials say everyone in town is now on edge awaiting word on whether VF will rebuild.
The distribution center was the city's largest employer by far, providing 150 jobs in the town of 1,600. Police Chief Kenny Hallmark says everyone in town in concerned about its future.
A spokesman says VF will announce a decision on whether to rebuild by July 31. In the meantime, the company says most of the displaced employees are working at other VF sites, including a facility in Holly Pond.
