Ala. Tornado Debris Nearly Cleaned Up

Birmingham, AL – State and federal emergency officials say 99 percent of debris has been cleared from Alabama communities since the April storms and tornadoes.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says more than $170 has been made available for individual federal disaster assistance.

Jeff Byard, state coordinating officer for the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, says the state's focus now is on long-term recovery.

To date, 11 Alabama communities have asked to participate in the Long Term Community Recovery program.
