Birmingham, AL – Republican Congressman Spencer Bachus says FEMA has agreed not to force the demolition of temporary storm shelters at schools in Alabama.
FEMA had asked schools to either pay them for the temporary shelters or destroy them once repairs are done on damaged schools and students move out of portable facilities.
Bachus and Republican Rep. Robert Aderholt announced Wednesday the change to the rule. They said FEMA will allow schools to keep the shelters without having to pay for them.
The shelters were put up after the April 27 tornadoes that devastated several Alabama communities.
