Montgomery, AL – A critic of Alabama's new immigration law, Democratic Sen. Billy Beasley of Clayton, has prepared legislation to try to repeal it in the next session of the Legislature.
Beasley voted against the law when the Legislature passed it in June. He says it's causing shortages of workers for farmers, long lines in courthouses, and trouble in schools. He says that many folks didn't realize it would have such an impact.
The Senate sponsor of the law, Republican Scott Beason of Gardendale, says he will fight efforts to repeal it or weaken it. He said the law is achieving its goal of moving illegal workers out of the state.
