Montgomery, AL – Longtime Alabama Legislative Fiscal Office director Joyce Bigbee plans to retire effective Jan. 1.
Bigbee told legislative leaders Monday that she plans to retire after a 33-year career in the state agency that advises the Alabama Legislature on the financial impact of legislation. She has been director of the agency for the past 24 years.
Bigbee's replacement will be chosen by the Legislature's Joint Fiscal Committee.
Bigbee's work leading the fiscal office was praised by House Speaker Mike Hubbard and Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh.
Hubbard said Bigbee has a reputation for working in a non-partisan manner to make sure legislators have the facts they need about the state's financial condition.
Bigbee attributed her success to ``the bright and professional employees'' of the fiscal office.
