Gov. Bentley Reassures Foreign Industries

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's governor says he worries that the state's tough immigration law could hurt industry recruitment and that's why he's reaching out to foreign companies to let them know that Alabama welcomes them.

Bentley told reporters Monday at the Capitol, ``We are very pro-foreign companies.''

Bentley said he learned from Mercedes that one of the company's German managers was arrested Nov. 16 for not have a driver's license with him while driving a rental car. The charge was later dropped. Bentley said Alabama already has a reciprocal agreement with Germany to issue Alabama licenses to its German workers with valid German licenses. He said state officials are working on getting similar agreements with other countries that have factories in Alabama.
