Montgomery, AL – Alabama's Prepaid Affordable College Tuition Plan is changing the amount it will pay for tuition for about 1,300 students for the fall semester. But it won't mean any more money out of the students' pockets.
The PACT plan had worked out a court settlement designed to keep the financially troubled program sound, but the Alabama Supreme Court put it on hold Nov. 18. State Treasurer Young Boozer said the board asked the Supreme Court for clarification about what it should do because most of the fall tuition bills had been paid under the settlement's terms, but about 1,300 remained to be paid. The Supreme Court declined to give advice.
Boozer said Monday tuition for those 1,300 will now be paid under rates in effect before the settlement.
