Alabama Towns Struggle To Clear Storm Debris

Clay, AL – Cleanup crews from Jefferson County and area towns were expected to begin arriving as early as Tuesday to help Clay residents to clear debris from last week's tornadoes.

Center Point also may take advantage of equipment and manpower offered by neighboring cities under a mutual aid agreement that kicks in after events such as the Jan. 23 tornado.

But Center Point Mayor Tom Henderson says the city also is soliciting bids from private contractors and is still weighing its options.

In Trussville, Mayor Gene Melton says the city plans to hire a private contractor to haul off debris from areas of damage in that community. Melton estimates the expense will be less than $100,000.
