Ala. EMA Opens Recovery Centers For Storm Victims

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama and Federal Emergency Management Agencies have opened disaster recovery centers in Jefferson and Chilton Counties to help victims of the January tornadoes.

Representatives from Alabama EMA, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be on hand to explain assistance programs and help survivors apply for disaster aid.

The tornadoes damaged more than 1,500 houses. One of the twisters killed two people in Jefferson County.

The agencies ask that people register with FEMA if possible by calling the agency or registering online.

Disaster recovery centers are located in Center Point, Pinson, Bessemer, Clanton and Maplesville.

Disaster assistance can include grants for rental assistance and home repair, low-interest loans to cover uninsured property and other programs to help victims recover from the storms.
