Judge Sets New Murder Trial Date For Ala. Professor

Huntsville, AL – A Madison County judge has scheduled a new trial date for a former college professor charged with killing three colleagues at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Amy Bishop is now set to go on trial on capital murder charges on Sept. 10. She's also charged with attempted murder in the shooting of three more co-workers who were wounded.

Bishop was originally scheduled to go to trial on Monday, but the judge delayed the case at the request of the defense. Bishop's attorneys are trying to overturn the refusal by the state comptroller's office to pay for psychological screening for the woman.

Bishop's lawyers say they plan to use an insanity defense. She has been jailed since the shooting in February 2010.
