Lawyer in governor's office arrested for child solicitation

An Alabama appeals court has ruled for the first time that a person can be convicted of electronic solicitation of a child even if the person communicated with an adult.

A lawyer in Gov. Kay Ivey's office was arrested on charges of using a computer to solicit or exploit a child.

Records show Chase Espy was booked into Jefferson County Jail on Wednesday.

Espy served as deputy general counsel in the governor's office. Ivey said in a statement that the accusations against Espy were tragic and shocking and that his employment has been terminated.
