The Southeastern Conference has unveiled its policy on dealing with COVID-19 issues across all sports for the 2021-22 season. SEC teams that do not have enough available players will have to forfeit games this year.

The league released its policy earlier this week. Unlike last season, the short-handed team must forfeit and will take a loss in the SEC standings for regular season games.

The scheduled opponent will be credited with a win.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey indicated earlier this summer that teams would have to forfeit instead of scheduling make up games like last season. This is to emphasize the need for teams to get vaccinated.

Many southeastern states are struggling with a high number of COVID cases and low vaccination rates.
