Jamie Cullum's 'Twentysomething'

In the jazz world, Jamie Cullum is the new kid on the block who doesn't quite want to fit in. The 24-year-old has built a large following in the United Kingdom with an irreverent brand of jazz that mixes pop, punk and playful interpretations of time-honored classics.

Cullum's CD Twentysomething is being released in the United States this week. It's an eclectic collection of original songs, show tunes and ballads, including covers of Jimi Hendrix and Radiohead.

Cullum's music is full of swing and stomp; the spiky-haired singer is known to bound atop his piano during live performances. NPR's Michele Norris talks with Cullum about his music and his new album.
