Today was the big day for astronomers and amateur stargazers. APR’s Pat Duggins reports the celestial event had to compete with barbeque and a deejay at the University of Alabama…
“If you do not have a pair of eclipse glasses, please go to check in, and we'll try to accomodate you..."
University of Alabama freshmen got eclipse viewing glasses along with lunch and line dancing just minutes before ninety percent of the sun was covered up by the moon. Astronomy professor Dean Townsley organized a nearby eclipse viewing event…
“…one of the scheduler people told me 'oooh, I hear that a solar eclipse is scheduled for Monday,' and I thought, well, it's really not scheduled per se."
UA freshman Bellingham Sweech was among those in eclipse glasses…
“Well, it looks like the moon in front of the sun. Glad to know its still there, you know."
Any freshmen who missed the eclipse will likely be UA alums by the time the next one appears in 2024.
