The policy cites an interesting in "promoting the health, well-being and safety of students, faculty, staff and campus visitors." University President Andrew Hugine says the policy is consistent with others in place across the country and is designed to encourage people to be healthy. The use of smokeless tobacco products and electronic cigarettes will be limited to outdoor spaces at least 25 feet from an entrance. AL.com reports the board also approved a policy that prohibits the possession, transportation and use of firearms on campus. The policy does not supersede state and federal gun laws.
