Human Rights Campaign to Host LGBTQ Equity Fair

The Human Rights Campaign is showcasing opportunities for the LGBTQ community this week in Birmingham.

Tomorrow, the organization will host an Equity Fair. The event will include a job fair and resources for transgender individuals to learn about changing their names legally. The HRC has reached out specifically to businesses they consider fair-minded that will help find employment for those in attendance.

Tori Wolfe-Sisson is the Community Organizer for the Human Rights Campaign in Alabama. She says this event will create a more positive atmosphere than other job fairs.

“We want to avoid and alleviate forms of discrimination statewide, but especially recognizing that we have volunteers and supporters who need jobs, but also it's a traumatic experience when you’re applying and you have to face questions that are dehumanizing and we would like to avoid that at all costs.”

The fair will be co-hosted by several groups including the ACLU of Alabama and AIDS Alabama. It will last from noon until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow across from AIDS Alabama’s office in Birmingham.
