Doug Jones Sees Massive Fundraising Spike

Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Doug Jones has seen a major bump in fundraising efforts, according to campaign officials.

According to the Alabama Political Reporter, over the first three months of the campaign through July 31, Jones only raised $300,000. Now the campaign says Jones has about $1.3 million, a million of which is cash on hand as of the end of the third quarter. Those numbers have not been independently verified, as the third-quarter Federal Election Commission fundraising reports were due on Sunday but have not yet been made public.

Jones’ spokesman Sebastian Kitchen says that fundraising spike is “the latest proof that our campaign is continuing to gain incredible momentum with grassroots support from throughout the state of Alabama”.

Republican candidate and former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore’s campaign reported raising $1.1 million with just over $285,000 on hand as of September 6. His fundraising total will jump as well once the FEC posts official third-quarter data, but it’s unclear by exactly how much.

With the general election between Moore and Jones less than 60 days away, polling indicates a much tighter than anticipated race. The latest survey from Alabama-based research firm Cygnal shows Moore holding on to an 8 point lead, with a 4.4 percent margin of error.
