Southeast region to house Alabama’s 5th veterans home

The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a new site for a veterans nursing home.

Belinda Bazinet is the ADVA’s public information specialist.

“Veterans can always apply to the other homes. Of course that puts a burden on their loved ones because if someone who is in that area gets accepted and moves up to where they can get into one of the other homes, their loved ones might have to drive two hours to four hours to visit,” Bazinet said.

The new facility will require a minimum of 27 acres for its planned 182,000 square foot building, designed to provide skilled nursing care for 150 to 175 veterans in need. The Department of VA will receive site selection proposals from the 10 counties in the region until August 15.
