Health officials in Alabama say they are seeing a spike in cases among young adults and children as the highly contagious delta variant sweeps through unvaccinated populations. In the past month, people between ages 25 to 49 made up 14% of all COVID deaths in the state. Close to 30% of deaths are between the ages of 50 to 64. The Alabama Hospital Association said this week 85% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients are unvaccinated. Thirty three percent of the State’s population fully vaccinated. County by county, Alabama’s vaccine rate varies from Russell County with 18% of residents getting their shots, to Lowndes County with 40%, which is better than Tuscaloosa’s 32%.
