Several American Indian leaders are asking for nearly 6,000 human remains and artifacts back from the University of Alabama's archaeological park and museum in Moundville.
The Oklahoma-based Muscogee Nation's officials said they've tried for six years to have the remains returned, but that bureaucratic red tape has slowed down the process. Tribal leaders are frustrated as they believe the remains and artifacts should be reburied.
A spokeswoman for the university said the school wants to collaborate with the request.
The Muscogee Nation and a half-dozen other tribes are seeking the return of the remains and artifacts, according to AL.com.
