WVUA23's Richard Scott says it could be a stormy start for 2022

Alabama Public Radio listeners are familiar with WVUA23's Richard Scott's weather reports during our newscasts. It's part of on-going collaborations between APR and the WVUA news team that benefits both radio and TV audiences. Here's what Richard has to say on the New Year's forecast...

"As our overnight severe weather vent ends, it's time to focus on the next event.

We're watching trends and new data come in on our severe risk for Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. Model data is in good agreement on a severe risk locally, and the Storm Prediction Center has placed all of our area in a slight, level 2 out of 5 risk.

Timing: We'll work to narrow the window as we get closer to the event, but early afternoon Saturday through 3am Sunday morning is our window of opportunity.

What do expect: a line of storms will move into our area during the afternoon and evening Saturday. These storms will be capable of producing damaging winds, hail & isolated tornadoes. The threat level may increase or decrease depending on wind shear and upper air support."
