The Alabama Board of Education is set to consider a proposal next month to end the high school graduation test.
The Decatur Daily reports educators say the Alabama High School Graduation Exam is dated and does not assess academic standards currently being taught in schools.
Florence City Schools Superintendent Janet Womack tells the newspaper that eliminating the test would be a "positive move."
Students first take the graduation test in 11th grade and can take it multiple times to receive their diploma. Last academic year, 83 percent of 11th-graders passed the reading portion of the exam, 85 percent passed math, and 96 percent passed biology.
The newspaper says the test is being replaced by end-of-course assessments and all Alabama juniors must also take the ACT college entrance exam.
