High levels of red tide found on Alabama coast, Man wins custody of care in Alabama divorce case

Health officials say a high concentration of red tide cells are being found in waters along the Alabama coast. A-P-R’s Stan Ingold has more…

An advisory issued by the Health Department says the microscopic sea organisms are being found in waters along the Baldwin County and Mobile coasts.

That includes water off the state's prime beaches plus Mobile Bay, Weeks Bay, the Mississippi Sound and Bayou La Batre.

Health officials say fish kills are possible because of red tide. And they say anyone with respiratory problems or irritation of the nose, throat or eyes should avoid mist from the affected waters.

While December isn't normally a busy time on the coast, this weekend could be different. Forecasters are predicting highs in the mid-70s and only a slim chance of rain through Sunday.

A court is granting an Alabama man custody of a 1994 Chevrolet Corvette in a divorce case.

The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals ruled Friday that an Etowah County judge was wrong to give the sports car to Carlaine Henry after she divorced James Todd Henry last year.

The couple didn't have children. But records show the woman sought the Corvette when she filed for divorce, and a judge agreed.

Henry's ex-husband appealed, saying his grandparents gave him the car 16 years before they married in 2012. The man argued they hadn't used the Corvette together, so he should keep it.

The appellate court sided with the man. It also overturned a judge's ruling that he had to pay his ex-wife $13,000 if he wanted the car.

The next Heisman Trophy winner will be announced tomorrow night.

Alabama junior running back Derrick Henry, Clemson sophomore quarterback Deshaun Watson and Stanford sophomore running back Christian McCaffrey are the finalists to be named the best player in college football.

SEC Nation analyst Tim Tebow says Henry has all of the attributes the Heisman committee is looking for…

“One of the special things about Derrick is his ability to get back up and be the same player on the next play.  To carry the ball 46 times against your archrival?  That’s crazy to able to have that stamina.   It’s his work ethic and his ability to get right back up and go just as hard the next play that makes him special.”

Henry carried the ball 339 times for an SEC Record 1,986 yards and 23 touchdowns this season.  The winner will be announced tomorrow night at seven on ESPN.
