An administrator from the University of Central Florida has been named president of the University of South Alabama in Mobile. Trustees unanimously selected Tony G. Waldrop as president during a meeting Thursday. Waldrop is provost and executive vice president at Central Florida, which is located in Orlando. He also held administrative positions at the University of North Carolina and the University of Illinois. At South Alabama, Waldrop replaces the late Gordon Moulton, who retired last July 1 and died in September. A statement from South Alabama says Waldrop was selected from an initial field of more than 130 candidates. He will start at South Alabama in April. South Alabama has an enrollment of about 15,300 students.
