Tuscaloosa County Jail grants inmates email access

WVUA 23

The Tuscaloosa County Jail is now allowing inmates to send and receive emails.

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Steve Abernathy cited the lack of communication between inmates and loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic as a major reason for the policy. The new email notification system will grant access to friends and family while maintaining social distancing.

The communication platform can be found on the Sheriff’s Office website, www.tcsoal.org. There is a new “Email Inmate” button on the booking information page of each person housed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail. Inmates will receive a printed version of the email along with an approved photo attachment.
