UAH Hosts Disability Workplace Inclusion Meetings

University of Alabama in Huntsville

The University of Alabama in Huntsville is focusing on the needs of the disabled community this month.

The campus is hosting weekly brown bag meetings for National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The gatherings focus on including the disabled in the workplace. The topics covered range from return on investment for companies, on-the-job coaching for those with disabilities, etiquette and a disability simulation.

Laurel Long is the associate vice president for human resources at UAH. She says one of their goals is to make people aware of how those with disabilities can be an asset in the work place.

“We want to just make people aware of the different types of disabilities, how persons with disabilities are succeeding in the workplace. We want to hear success stories, talk about what that looks like, because sometimes people just don’t know, so our main goal is just to get that information out there.”

The meetings are open to the public on the UAH campus every Thursday beginning today through the first week of November.
