Ten fingers and ten toes. Parents of newborns count them quickly. And not all children are born with fully developed arms and hands.

For those who aren't, medical science is quite literally making progress.

Dr. William H. Seitz is an orthopedic surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic, is a specialist in a bone-lengthening technique called callotasis, or distraction lengthening.
