BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A new project is highlighting some of the places in Alabama that played a role in the civil rights movement.

An online, oral history presentation called "Voices of Alabama" features photos of historic sites and interviews with some of the people who worked with the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s. The state was a hotbed of the movement at the time.

The website went online Wednesday.

If you're a fan of actor Matthew McConaughey, you may have seen his movie "Free State of Jones." It's about a county in Mississippi that rose up against the Confederacy during the Civil War. That's drawing a reaction of "been there, done that" from APR political commentator Steve Flowers.

B.J. Hollars is an Indiana boy who took the MFA here at the University and since has pursued his teaching career in Wisconsin at Eau Claire.

But Alabama history and culture, as is often the case with northerners, struck him as exotic, seized his imagination and has given him a lifetime of material.

A committee probing the possible impeachment of Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is hiring special counsel to lead the investigation.  The House Judiciary Committee will meet Friday to discuss and approve the appointment.

The committee is looking into whether there are grounds to impeach the Republican governor in the wake of a sex-tinged scandal involving a former top aide.

Alabama's Marine Resources Division and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab are investigating after vacationers found dozens of dead sharks along the shore of Mobile Bay.

Media outlets report the sharks, mostly identified as bull sharks, were discovered Saturday morning. Sabrina Rios, who was on vacation with her family, reported finding a net with about 40 sharks inside.
