DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama inmate has been captured in Tennessee about five hours after authorities say he escaped from custody. Prison officials say 38-year-old Michael Kimbrough was arrested Tuesday night in Fayetteville, Tennessee. 


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say they've arrested a woman on charges of helping two prisoners who escaped from the Tuscaloosa County Jail last week. 

The sheriff's office says 28-year-old Remona Dailey of Northport is accused of giving rides to Seth Williams and Cameron Newell after they escaped through the jail roof on Friday. Those two men and a third prisoner who escaped have since been arrested and returned to custody.



TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (The Tuscaloosa News) — Three men who escaped from a west Alabama jail have been recaptured. 

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office tells the Tuscaloosa News that 38-year-old Richard Lancaster was found hiding under a mobile home in Northport on Sunday afternoon. Lancaster got out from the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Friday, along with Seth Schuyler Williams and Cameron Keith Newell. The three are believed to have escaped through a vent shaft on the roof.

BRANTLEY, Ala. (AP) — An escaped Alabama inmate has been captured after more than a week on the lam.

The Department of Corrections says 34-year-old Dustin Joel Morton was arrested Tuesday in the south Alabama town of Brantley. He escaped from the Elba Work Release Center about 20 miles away on Feb. 17.  

Morton was serving a 15-year sentence for obstructing justice and using a false identity in Marshall County. He was sentenced in September 2017.

Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from a work-release program in northwest Alabama.

A report from the Department of Corrections says 26-year-old Xavier Lamont Armstead escaped from custody in Colbert County on Monday afternoon. He left a job site and hasn't been seen since.

Lamont was serving a more than 19-year sentence for third-degree burglary. Court records show he has multiple arrests on charges including burglary, forgery, theft and receiving stolen property.

Following his Monday morning escape, authorities captured Tennessee inmate Jack Kilpatrick in central Alabama Monday afternoon.

The 39-year-old used a container maintenance truck to flee a work release site in Memphis. His arrest in St. Clair County followed a short car chase.

Kilpatrick began serving a methamphetamine possession sentence of less than a year in October.

An Alabama inmate who escaped from a state prison four months ago is now back in custody.

Citing the state department of corrections, news outlets report 50-year-old Kevin Bradley Nelson surrendered to deputies in Chilton County on Tuesday. The agency says Nelson was serving two years at a state prison for receiving stolen property when he escaped in August.

Details surrounding his escape and what prompted his surrender were unclear as of early Wednesday.


PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in Florida have captured one of two inmates who tunneled their way out of an Alabama jail.

Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon says they escaped Sunday after breaking apart a steel stool inside a cell and using it as a tool to chip away concrete from around a window to the outside.


BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) — Police say a car wreck near Birmingham, Alabama, led to the capture of an escaped prisoner and a teenage girl who disappeared the day after he broke out.

News outlets reports 30-year-old John Kaleb Gillespie was arrested Monday following a crash on Interstate 459. He escaped from the Morgan County Jail eight days earlier.

Police say Gillespie was accompanied by a 16-year-old girl who left her home in Moulton the day after Gillespie escaped and hasn't been seen since.

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama inmate with a violent history of eluding law enforcement is on the run again.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old John Kaleb Gillespie escaped from the jail in Decatur on Sunday.

Sheriff's officials say another inmate helped Gillespie climb over a recreation yard wall.

Officials say Gillespie tried to run over an Alabama state trooper in Lawrence County in November 2018 as officers fired on his truck.
