MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama Hospital Association and state doctors are urging Gov. Kay Ivey to extend a statewide rule requiring face masks in public.

The president of the hospital group, Dr. Donald Williamson, says cases of COVID-19 have fallen since reaching a high in the summer. And he says the reduction is tied to the rule, which took effect in mid-July and is set to expire Friday.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey is extending a statewide mask order that health officials have credited with reducing COVID-19 cases in the state.

The Republican governor announced Thursday that the mask order, which had been set to expire next week, will be extended until Oct. 2. The governor also said she will keep in place other health orders, such as reducing occupancy in stores and  limiting table seating in restaurants.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey is extending a state order requiring face coverings in public for another month. 

And she says masks will be required for students in grade 2 and above in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19 as schools reopen.

Ivey announced she was extending an earlier mask order during a news conference at the Capitol in Montgomery on Wednesday. The order had been set to expire on Friday.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Lawyers for Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey have asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit challenging a statewide order to wear face coverings in public places to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama reported more than 2,200 new coronavirus cases, the highest single-day increase in cases since the pandemic began. 

The spike came after several days of declining case numbers and as a number of school systems announced that students will not immediately return to classrooms this fall.

PELHAM, Ala. (AP) — A new health rule mandating face masks in public in Alabama is off to an uneven start. 

Many people are covering up to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. But others are refusing and authorities taking a generally hands-off approach to enforcement.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama’s health order requiring masks in public places has taken effect as COVID-19 hospitalizations reached another new high in the state. 

The Mobile County public school system also announced Thursday that students will not return to classroom this fall because of the state’s rise in cases.

Gov. Kay Ivey announced the rule on Wednesday, a day after the state reported a pandemic-high of 40 deaths in a single day.
