HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a man seen brandishing a gun at Black Lives Matter protesters in Alabama was arrested and accused of being drunk. 

Scott Christopher Davis was charged Sunday with public intoxication and possession of a firearm. Huntsville police were called to the protest near Courthouse Square Sunday evening on reports of a man harassing protesters.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Confederate monuments are once again coming down in the South. 

Relics of the Old South have been removed from public display in at least three states amid continuing protests over the police killing of George Floyd in Minnesota. In Alabama, crews working overnight took down a huge stone monument in a park in downtown Birmingham. 

 

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Police said 20 people were arrested at a weekend protest near Hoover City Hall while demonstrating against the death of George Floyd in Minnesota. 

Hoover police Lt. Keith Czeskleba told WBRC-TV most of Saturday's arrests resulted in disorderly conduct charges after protesters blocked traffic on a highway. Other charges included criminal trespass and resisting arrest, and one person was charged with carrying a firearm during a demonstration.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama State University students who were expelled for leading the state's first known sit-in protest against segregation have been honored on the 59th anniversary of the protest.

Montgomery city and county leaders Monday presented resolutions to ASU President Quinton Ross expressing sorrow for the "wrongs from the past."

The students from the historically black university staged a sit-in on Feb. 25, 1960, at the whites-only lunch counter at the Montgomery County Courthouse.
