Tuscaloosa, AL – The West Alabama Chapter of the American Red Cross wants volunteers for its Language Bank. Alabama's demographics are changing, and the Red Cross is looking for people who speak more than one language. Executive Director Kathy Martin-Spakes says bilingual volunteers would be a great asset because language is one of the organization's biggest barriers. She says the state's Hispanic community is growing, but there are few volunteers who are fluent in Spanish. Martin-Spakes says the Red Cross would offer training and use volunteers to aid case workers who help non-English speaking residents.
