Montgomery, AL – An Alabama National Guardsman from Mobile is in stable condition in a hospital in Germany. Sergeant Larry Gill was among four Alabama Guardsmen injured Tuesday in a grenade attack in Baghdad. His father says Gill had surgery for shrapnel wounds in his arms and legs. Sergeant Richard Barnes of Mississippi also is recovering from his wounds in a military hospital in Germany. Gill and Barnes are members of the 11-65th Military Police Company of Fairhope. The company has been in Iraq about five months. The medical conditions of two other Alabama National Guard soldiers -- Sergeant Douglas Robinson of Shorter and Specialist Donald Grant of Georgia -- were not immediately available. Robinson and Grant are assigned to the 214th Military Police Company in Tuskegee and Alexander City. The Guardsmen were trying to disperse a crowd when a hand grenade exploded nearby.
