Birmingham Candidates Still Campaigning

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – The two remaining candidates in Birmingham's mayoral runoff are once again appealing to city voters. Incumbent Mayor Bernard Kincaid and City Council member Carole Smitherman meet in a November Fourth runoff, and both are already firing political shots. Kincaid has said voters don't want "a wimpy" mayor but one who will continue to fight for change in Birmingham. Kincaid also says he's been unfairly labeled as too stubborn and uncooperative. Smitherman is a lawyer and former judge and says she's been a leader all her life. She says she has the administrative abilities to be mayor. Kincaid won 32 percent of the vote last Tuesday, while Smitherman was second with 23 percent.
