Tuscaloosa May Repeal Grilling Ban

By Alabama Public Radio

Tuscaloosa, AL – The Tuscaloosa City Council could vote Thursday to repeal its two-week-old ordinance banning grilling on apartment complex balconies. Several council members say they are now second-guessing their decision because they have learned the statistics they used were incorrect. Councilman Kip Tyner says he questioned the ordinance after taking a closer look at statistics from Tuscaloosa Fire Chief A-J Martin. Martin told the council committee there had been 17 fires at apartment complexes in three years. However, only six fires were related to grills, and of those occurred at the Fraternal Order of Police lodge. Tyner has introduced a resolution that will appear on tomorrow's city council agenda. If it passes, the ordinance will be repealed.
