Montgomery, AL – A new poll shows waning public support for Governor Bob Riley as he tackles the state's mounting economic troubles.
The poll indicates that only three out of 10 Alabamians approve of the job Riley is doing. The poll also show Governor Riley would trail both former Chief Justice Roy Moore and former Governor Don Siegelman in the race for governor in 2006. Only 20 percent said the governor was doing a good or excellent of managing the state's finances. And only 21 percent say the Governor is doing a good job of removing waste and corruption from state government. Riley's chief of staff Toby Roth says the low poll numbers are related to problems inherited from the previous administration.
The poll was conducted by the Mobile Register and the University of South Alabama. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5-percentage points.
