Fort Rucker, AL – Officials from Alabama's health and environmental agencies are helping Dale County and Fort Rucker investigate a pump malfunction. It caused a sewage spill sometime between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Authorities have issued a health advisory for Claybank Creek and have warned against swimming or eating fish from the creek until the amount of damage can be determined. An Army spokesperson says it's not known how much partially treated sewage water spilled from the base's treatment plant. Workers began diverting water flow to a holding tank after 7 A-M yesterday until the pump was replaced. The plant treats about 60-thousand gallons per hour but it was not known how long the pump was out of service. Claybank Creek flows south into the Choctawhatchee River.
