Cuban Farm Import Negotiations End

By Alabama Public Radio

Havana, Cuba – A week of negotiations with Cuban agriculture officials has netted more than 100 million dollars in export contracts for US farm goods.
State Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks has yet to say how much, if any, of that money involves Alabama businesses. But he and other US farming officials are calling for an end to the trade embargo against Cuba. US food companies have shown increased interest in business with Cuba, despite the U.S. government's tightened restrictions on the relations with the country. Cuba is also showing interest in importing more US farm goods.
Sparks says he hopes the new agri-business relationships between the two nations will survive. The two countries have had no diplomatic ties for the last four decades.
