King Honored During Holiday

Tuscaloosa, AL – Alabamians marked Monday's Martin Luther King Junior holiday with prayer, marches, and ceremonies. In Tuscaloosa, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference lead a march through the city and sponsored a rally at First African Baptist Church. Marchers took to the streets in downtown Birmingham and placed a wreath in Kelly Ingram Park. A couple hundred people also marched up Montgomery's historic Dexter Avenue to the capitol. They walked past King Memorial Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, where King was pastor when he helped lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
